Grounded is a garden design practice founded by Josh Clarke.
Based in Norwich and working across Norfolk, Suffolk, London and beyond, Grounded creates thoughtful, characterful gardens designed around the people who use them.
No two gardens, or clients, are the same
- so we don't believe in a
one-size-fits-all approach. Every
project starts with a clear understanding
of the space, how it works and the
potential behind it.
A decent outdoor space needs more than
good intentions. Ideas, imagination and
a clear sense of purpose are integral to
the Grounded process, but we believe
gardens also need to function properly
and respond to the realities of
their surroundings
Grounded brings these things together to
create gardens that feel coherent as a whole, without following a particular formula or style.
The aim is simply to find the right answer for each space — and create something compelling and a pleasure to spend time in.

Before moving into garden design, I spent fifteen years working in creative strategy with the media world — developing ideas and helping turn them into reality.
That experience really shapes how I approach gardens today: looking at the bigger picture, working through complex decisions and bringing clarity to the design process.
I hold a Distinction in the Postgraduate Diploma in Garden Design from the British Academy of Garden Design, alongside formal RHS horticultural training.
Whether it's a complete redesign, a new planting scheme or a focused improvement to an existing space, Grounded is about finding the potential in a garden and turning it into something people genuinely want to spend time in.
